Every day, informal waste collectors stand on the frontline of waste management. Their dedication keeps our communities cleaner and reduces plastic pollution. Yet too often, they carry out this essential work without adequate safety training or protective equipment.

With the generous support of the PUM Hans Blankert Fund, Atacama Consulting Foundation (ACF), the social impact arm of Atacama Consulting 🍃👷🏾‍♀️🦺  launched a new initiative in Kinawataka, Nakawa Division, Kampala Capital City, Central Uganda on 3 February 2026, to provide safety training and protective gear to informal waste collectors. This marked an important step towards improving working conditions, reducing health risks, and recognizing the critical role these workers play in protecting our environment.

Together, we are strengthening safer, more resilient community-based waste management systems.
